Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori said on Wednesday that the umpires will not make much difference from checking the bat size. Vetori said that I wish such criteria would apply even during his play days.
The umpire has been examining the bat with a gauge (triangular scale measuring the size of the bat), which has to pass the bat. Its purpose is to eliminate the use of big size bat. In this season, the field umpires are allowed to examine the bat during the match. The latest example of this is Kolkata Knight Riders’ Enrik Noorkia. His bat failed in the test on Tuesday, after which he had to change it in the match against Punjab Kings.
Vettori said before the match against Mumbai Indians, “I wish he had investigated the bat even when I was playing. By the way, I don’t think it will make any difference. These players have to pass regularly through such investigation. The umpires often go to the dressing room, so the players know that their bat is according to the rules. It takes just a second time. Vettori said that this has not been a matter of discussion among SRH batsmen. He said that he does not think there is any possibility of decrease in the size of the bat.
