New Delhi. After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahgam, there is a demand to abolish all cricket relations with Pakistan, in which 26 citizens were killed. India and Pakistan do not play bilateral chain and only face each other in ICC events and Asia Cups. Given tension on the border, playing with Pakistan in the ICC event also seems to have a distant dream.
But, some India-Pakistan matches are going to be held this year. The men’s team will face their arch rival in the Asia Cup in September, while the women’s team may face Pakistan in the Women’s ODI World Cup. And both these tournaments will be held in India. This is a complex situation. It has been confirmed that Pakistan will not play its matches in India, as the BCCI and PCB have agreed that all the ICC and ACC tournaments organized by the two countries will be played in the hybrid models. Scheduling will be a difficult task. Without India-Pakistan match, the tournament cannot be financially successful, which will affect not only BCCI or PCB but also other boards.
Amidst the ongoing controversy, Pakistan opener Gul Feroza said that his team is not interested in playing the Women’s ODI World Cup in India and hoped to play in Dubai or Sri Lanka.
“We know so much that we will play under Asian circumstances, and we are not playing in India. It is clear. Nor we are interested in playing in India,” he told Pakpation.
He further said, “So, wherever it will be played – hopefully in Sri Lanka or Dubai – those circumstances would be similar to Asia. Qualifier was at home, and the staff prepared the pitches accordingly. Wherever the World Cup matches will be played, the circumstances will be the same as our house. Therefore, our preparations will be done accordingly, and we are ready for it, and we are ready for it,”
