Latif has talked about releasing an autobiography for the first time after retiring in 2004.
Rashid Latif, who exposed corruption in Pakistan’s dressing room, said that he has started working on a biography. Latif said to ‘Jio TV’, ‘I can assure you that I will reveal everything and the book will open everyone’s eyes.’ Latif first caught attention to match fixing in 1994, when he and Basit Ali announced his retirement during the tour of South Africa.
Rashid Latif, who is considered one of the best wicketkeeper in Pakistan cricket history, then said that he cannot continue playing in the current environment of the dressing room. Latif explained how some players were allegedly involved in losing the match and were asked to ‘do what were said’.
Due to this, a long scam continued in Pakistan cricket till 2000/2001. The Justice Qayyum Committee, which investigated the allegations of match fixing, later recommended a lifetime ban on Salim Malik. Apart from this, it was recommended to impose a penalty for not cooperating in the investigation on Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmed and others. In this investigation, fast bowler Ata-ur-Rahman was also banned for lifetime in this investigation.
Even after the investigation and recommendation of the Justice Qayyum Committee, Pakistan continued to harass cricket match fixing and corruption. Danish Kaneria, Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif, Mohammad Aamir, Sharjil Khan, Khalid Latif and some other players were either banned or fined for their role in spot fixing.
