New Delhi: Former left -arm spinner Sunil Joshi has submitted his claim for the post of spin bowling coach at the Center of Excellence (COE) of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI). The post was vacant after the resignation of Sairaj much earlier this year. Many IPL teams joined Rajasthan Royals.
COE was earlier known as the National Cricket Academy (NCA). It was previously located at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. However, COE equipped with modern facilities is being operated on a very large campus on the outskirts of Bangalore city.
Former Indian cricketer is Sunil Joshi
Joshi, 54, who plays 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2002, is currently working with Ricky Ponting in the Punjab Kings IPL team. He has also given coaching to Uttar Pradesh during the domestic season. He has also worked as a spin bowling advisor with Bangladesh’s national men’s team.
Interview given in front of veterans
According to BCCI sources, Joshi appeared for an online interview in front of a three -member panel including COE cricket head VVS Laxman, Men’s Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar and General Manager (Cricket Operations) Abbe Kuruvilla.

Four other people also appeared personally for the interview, including Nushin Al Khadir, coach of India’s Under-19 women’s team. She was an off -spinner during her play days. She represented the country in five Tests and 78 ODIs and has been part of the NCA system for the last few years. Rakesh Dhruv is being considered as another strong candidate. He is a former left -arm spinner of Gujarat and Saurashtra. Vidarbha’s veteran off -spinner Pritam Gandhe has also interviewed for this post.
Sunil Joshi’s claim is the strongest
When asked about the interview for the post from a senior BCCI officer, he said, ‘Obviously Sunil Joshi has the best CV (experience) compared to all other candidates. Talking about Nushin, the BCCI is going to create a wide female wing with employees dedicated to women cricketers of international, national and domestic age groups.
What will be the work of spin bowling coach?
The selected coach will have to work with Bharat A, India Under-19 and top domestic bowlers along with providing technical information to other international stars like Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.
