New Delhi. The news of the abolition of the contract of Abhishek Nair, assistant coach of the Indian cricket team created a ruckus. Now BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has indicated that the board is going to make some changes. However, he did not give much information about it.
On Thursday, all the media outlets, citing BCCI sources, said that Nair has been dismissed after eight months of tenure. Along with Nair, fielding coach T Dileep and Strength and Conditioning Trainer Soham Desai have also been removed. Saikia told the news agency PTI, “Some things are being finalized. You will get a press note from BCCI in a few days.”
Indian Express quoted a source as saying, “Nair, Dilip and Soham were told about it last week. The Indian board will not have any new appointment at present.”
Nair was appointed as an assistant coach in July last year. The BCCI held a review meeting after Australia’s five -match Test series. In which India had to face a 1-3 defeat. India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, head of selection committee Ajit Agarkar and Saikia were included in this meeting.
Before his appointment, Nair worked with Gambhir with Kolkata Knight Riders when he won the IPL in 2024. The former all -rounder played three ODIs for India in 2009. In January this year, the BCCI appointed Sitanshu Kotak as a batting coach for the domestic white-ball series against England.
PTI quoted a source as saying, “Although the BCCI did not take immediate action, he brought Kotak which is a former Saurashtra run scorer. It was a way to sideline Nair during the Champions Trophy.”
