New Delhi. Indian captain Rohit Sharma became emotional here on Friday, remembering his journey from standing to get a glimpse of Mumbai Ranji Trophy stars as a young player outside the Wankhede Stadium to get a glimpse of a stand (pavilion) after the name of a stand (pavilion) after his name. He called it an ‘unrealistic feeling’.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) recently announced the name of a stand after India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit as well as former captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI President and ICC Chairman Sharad Pawar. After being declared the brand ambassador of the third season of ‘T20 Mumbai League’, Rohit said, “When someone starts playing cricket, no one dreams of such things.”
‘Batsman like him should be in the team…’ After defeating RCB, for whom Shreyas Iyer said?
Recalling the past, he said that he was eager to see the stars as a budding player. He said, “I still remember the days when I used to stand outside the Wankhede Stadium to see the practice of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. I am talking about 2004 or perhaps 2003. We used to complete our under-14, under-16 training in Azad Maidan. I used to cross a glimpse of some Ranji Trophy cricketers by crossing the railway track with some of my friends. ”
Rohit said, “I know how difficult it was to go inside the Wankhede Stadium at that time. Even now, obviously, no stranger (people) will be allowed to go inside the stadium… but those days were also good. Now, sitting and thinking that there is going to be a stadium stand in my name, this is an unrealistic feeling. This is something that I never thought about and I will always be grateful for this great respect in my life. “
