New Delhi: Abhishek Nair, assistant coach of the Indian cricket team, has been removed from the post only after eight months amidst speculation with a high-profile member of the associate staff, although the reason for this is being told to defeat in Test matches against New Zealand and Australia.
A BCCI source said, “India’s recent defeat in Test cricket (against New Zealand and Australia) was brainstorming about the allied staff, but in the BCCI, it is also felt that Nair became a goat of sacrifice in the fight between an important member of the support staff and a senior star player.”

Fielding coaches T Dilip and Strength and Conditioning Coach Soham Desai are also scheduled to be out after completing more than three years in their respective positions as the BCCI’s new standard operation process (SOP) has limited the tenure of the collaborative staff to three years.
PTI also contacted 41 -year -old Nair, who played three ODIs for India but he did not respond. This all -rounder is considered to be the legend of domestic cricket. He played a total of 103 first class matches. It is learned that Sitanshu Kotak was planned to remove Nair since he was included in the Indian team’s associate staff as additional batting coaches.
A senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “The BCCI had held a review meeting just after the tour of Australia, which was present, including Secretary Devjit Saikia and Vice President Rajiv Shukla, the top officials of the board, important members associated with the Indian team and national selectors were present.”
He said, ‘In this meeting, a senior member from the associate staff had expressed apprehension about the role of Nair and said that his presence is adversely affecting the dressing room. The BCCI did not take immediate action, but they brought Kotak. This was a way to shore Nair during the Champions Trophy.

Nair is believed to be the first choice of head coach Gautam Gambhir for Assistant Coach. He was appointed to act as a bridge between Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma as he has a good friendship. Nair and Dileep have been trusted by the Indian captain and have not been discovered whether Rohit has been made aware of this new development or not.
