New Delhi: Mumbai Indians new player Ashwani Kumar said that captain Hardik Pandya reminded him before the IPL debut and removed his nervousness that ‘Punjabi is fearless’ and he should just go to the field and create awe in the rival team.
The 23 -year -old Left Arm fast bowler from Jhanjeeri, Punjab played an important role in giving the team an easy win by taking four wickets for 24 runs on Monday against Kolkata Knightders. He also became the first Indian to take four wickets in his first match in the IPL.
Ashwani did not eat lunch due to the first panic of the match and had only landed on the field after eating bananas. He credited his captain for making himself comfortable.
Ashwani said to IPLT20.com, ‘This is a very good feeling. I never thought that I would do so well. Hardik Bhai said to me, ‘You are from Punjab and Punjabi is fearless, so scare the rival players and enjoy it.’
He also became the first Indian bowler to take a wicket on his first ball in the IPL in the last 10 years. On his first ball, he caught KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane by Tilak Verma.
Apart from Rahane, Ashwani also walked Manish Pandey and Rinku Singh in this match, but their favorite wicket was Andre Russell.
Ashwani has joined the long and great list of young Indian talents discovered by Mumbai Indians in the IPL. This includes players like Jaspreet Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Tilak Verma.
