Question raised on batting in the lower order of Mahendra Singh Dhoni

New Delhi. Chennai Super Kings faced the Indian Premier League defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at their home ground after 17 years. Chasing the target of 197 runs, CSK could score only 146-8 runs in 20 overs. The team had to face a big defeat of 50 runs. After this match, the most discussed was on batting at number 9 of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. All the veterans questioned the fact that he is the best finisher in the world, so why come and play so much.
This was a match in which MS Dhoni could play an important role with the bat. He himself sent the rest to play instead of promoting in the batting order. Dhoni came to bat at number 9 when the match had gone out of hand. Even R Ashwin was sent above to bat. Dhoni scored 32 runs in 16 balls against RCB which included two sixes and three fours but it did not make any sense.
The former CSK captain had already told why he comes so low in batting order. In an interview with Geostar before IPL 2025, Dhoni said that he bats down because his knee is not 100 percent right. Second, he said that he wants to give a chance to those players who are playing to make a place in the national team.
Dhoni had said, “So, if you look, I had a problem in my knee, but it is better than last year. Also was being selected for the T20 World Cup. If you look at our team, who were the contenders? Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) was among the contenders and Shivam Dubey was also among the claimants, then you would have wanted to give him a chance.”
Dhoni supported his decision and said that the players who are batting before him are also doing well. The franchise is not suffering from their decision. “It’s not that if you are promoting the players then the franchise is being harmed. Then, if everyone is playing their role and responsibility, and this is reduced by some pressure on me, then why not,”
